Teaching may be fun after all

Today went much better than yesterday. I think the prep rally really was a contributing factor. I wonder if it helped that I started the class off with a list of rules today.

Rules
1. No talking when someone else is talking.
2. No swearing.
3. No food or drinks, except water.
4. No cell phones.
5. No headphones during tests or lessons.
6. Only one person may go to the bathroom at a time and not during the lesson.
7. Anytime after the bell is late.
8. If you borrow something you must leave collateral.

So they weren't perfect today (not that I expect them to be), but they were a whole lot better. Manageable.

Today

Today didn't go quite so well. I had the kids right after a pep rally. They wouldn't stop talking. Brought back memories from not knowing what to do with my class in teacher's college. Later on I realized that it probably had a lot to do with the pep rally and things will probably get better. I'm just tired now though. It's been a long day. Hopefully tomorrow goes better. My dad reminded me that God wouldn't put me here and leave me alone. That's true. I still hope things go better tomorrow though.

I'm a teacher...

It feels so weird. I'm actually a teacher. I taught my first class today. My very own class.
It's weird to not have someone else in charge. No one looking at my lesson plans or sitting in the back of the class while I teach. Very weird to have the freedom, but very nice.
I have my first parents' night tomorrow night. And my first staff meeting. I won't have much to say to the parents since I will have only met the students twice, but I'll get to see how things go and learn about my students from their old teacher.
I was nervous this morning, but things went pretty well. HOpefully things will go well tomorrow too.

10 Buses

I think that it is pretty impressive that I took 10 buses today.
I took the 34 and transfered to the 43 and then to the 11. Had my WHMIS training, then took the 11 to the 43 and then got off at the mall. Had lunch with Bre, Doug and Emma, then took the 41 to the doctor's for him to look at my TB test. Then took the 33 downtown and tried to pick up my police check but it wasn't ready yet. Then I went over to the board office and dropped off the papers that I did have ready. But they can't process them until they have my police check. Then I took the 34 home. There I was home for about an hour and then took the 34 and then the 5 to Nick and Rachael's. Then I went with Nick and Joey to the visitation for Matt's grandmother.
Overall a busy day. Not a bad day, but a busy one. I guess it was a good day. I got a bunch of paperwork done for my new job and I got to see a bunch of friends. I just wanted my police check to be ready. I guess I did give the day to God though before I went out, so I can't really complain. So ya, a good day.

Snow

Yesterday afternoon it was 16 degrees out. I didn't need a coat. Today it snowed. There was a windchill of -4. Now that's nuts. I may have lived in Canada my whole life, but I'm still not used to the weather.

Job!

So ya, I pretty much have a job teaching a grade 10 math class. They just have to check my references.
It's at my old high school. :)

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is an interesting thing. No matter how much you know you should do it and want to do it, you can't do it until you're ready and you can't do it without God's help.
